Google Celebrates Juan Gris’s 125th Birthday With A Sculpture Doodle

Google came up with a new doodle for the day to honor Juan Gris, a Spanish painter and sculptor who is famous for his artistic genre ‘Cubism’. José Victoriano (Carmelo Carlos) González-Pérez most popularly known as Juan Gris was born on March 23, 1887 lived and spent most of his life in France have studied mechanical drawing and have later developed his interest in painting and sculpture art.

Juan Gris is famous for his humorous illustrations which include paintings like Le Rire, L’assiette au beurre, Le Charivari, and Le Cri de Paris, and later have developed his own personal Cubist style which have created rave in those times, his portrait of Picasso in 1912 is one of the most significant and proved to be the early Cubist painting done by a painter other than Picasso or Braque.

Juan Gris have also worked as a designer and have designed ballet sets and costumes for Sergei Diaghilev and Ballets Russes. One of his portraits (Livre, pipe et verres) were sold for a whopping price of $20.8 million in November 2010, and “Violon et guitare” sold for $28.6 million.

He died on May 11, 1927 at the age of 40, after falling ill with bouts of uremia and cardiac problems, Gris has got a wife, Josette, and a son, Georges at the time of his death.
